The annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament has announced plans to return to Kona on Hawaii's Big Island this summer after being forced to cancel the 2020 installment due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event is scheduled to run July 31 to Aug. 8 off the Kona Coast of Hawaii Island with five days of fishing and a host of other events, including opening and closing receptions, a banquet dinner and an awards ceremony.
The tournament attracts anglers from around the world, including numerous teams from New Zealand, Japan, Palau, Australia and mainland U.S., with the winner taking home the Governor's Trophy. The largest marlin caught in the tournament's history tip the scales at more than 900 pounds.
Founded in 1959 shortly after Hawaii became a U.S. state, the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is entering its 61st year.
