Pele Plantations, and organic Kona coffee farm on Hawaii Island, recently announced the start of free tours by reservation.

The family-owned farm has operated since 1989 and specializes in 100% Kona coffee. Pele Plantations also works with other farms to augment their bean supply, and features both organic Kona and organic Kona Peaberry, a naturally occurring mutation that results in a single small bean with an intense flavor, instead of the more typical two flat beans.

"Working with neighboring farmers we know and trust gives us total control over the product," Pele Plantations owner Melanie Korn said in a release. "Each individual farm's coffee is kept separate and packaged as a unique product."

The free tours are now offered Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Pele Plantations working farm overlooking Honaunau Bay in South Kona. The 90-minute tours, led by Korn, are available upon request only, and designed for individuals, couples and small groups.

Participants will get a crash course in the coffee plants and growing process, organic versus nonorganic procedures, the picking and roasting processes, and all stages of coffee production. The tour ends with a fresh cup of Kona coffee.
