The year kicked off with a bang for Mexico as a slew of new hotels and resorts have opened their doors across the country, and several ones still slated to arrive. Here is a look at what travelers can expect when looking into hotel options in Mexico this year.
Rancho San Lucas, an 834-acre community, featuring 1.2 miles of beach, will open in Cabo this December. The development will have oceanfront Estates and oceanview villas and condos, along with a Greg Norman-designed 18-hole golf course, tennis center, two luxury resorts and Mexican Village. The first phase will open with a Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas and the Residences at Rancho San Lucas resorts.
Temptation Cancun Resort is scheduled to reopen this fall. Currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation, the new Temptation Cancun Resort will reshape the Cancun skyline with a colorful seven-story building including newly designed rooms and suites, new lively guest areas, a pool, eight restaurants and five bars.
On Feb. 1, Los Cabos welcomed Chilean Bay Resort & Residences, located at the base of Chilean Bay, Cabo's swimmable beach. Features include a 450-foot-long swimming pool, 60 rooms and 32 two-, three- and four-bedroom villas. Guestrooms feature private terraces with ocean, beach pool, or garden views, as well as freestanding soaking bathtubs and private outdoor showers. Villas are equipped with gourmet kitchens and living spaces with plunge pools, hot tubs and ocean views. The three-tiered infinity edge pool cascades through the center of the property, featuring private poolside cabanas. The H20 Watersports Activity Cave offers snorkeling gear, glass-bottomed kayaks, and other watersports equipment. The resort's Activity Center has a kids' club, two movie theaters, a games lawn and the Fitness Center.
Unico 20'87' Hotel Riviera Maya has officially opened. The all-inclusive hotel features curated amenities, culinary offerings inspired by native Mexican cuisine, developed private excursions, and more. The resort features 448 guestrooms, with ocean views and semi-private swim-up pools on all ground floor rooms, and outdoor double-hydro spa tubs on all remaining rooms. An in-room mini bar stocked for guest preference, as well as all the essentials to make-your-own cocktail round out personalized room amenities. The resort features three expansive pools, a wellness center, a spa with 18 cabins, five gourmet restaurants and six bars and lounges, including a cigar lounge and two swim-up bars. Signature guest experiences will include art to purchase from local artisans both in-room and throughout the property and the Esencia Beauty Bar located in the Esencia Wellness, where guests select their own personalized in-room amenities. Programming will include mezcal tastings and cocktail hour by Executive Mixologist, custom beer gardens, Art Attack competitions, and acoustic sunset jams.
KanXuk Blue Maya Resort has opened in the Unesco World Heritage Site on the Caribbean coast of Mexico's Yucatan. Located in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere just south of Tulum, the KanXuk Blue Maya Resort offers complimentary transportation to/from the airport by car, boat or helicopter (available upon request). There are four main villa rooms with ocean views, one main villa room with a jungle view, three oceanfront bungalows and one premium bungalow with a private garden and dipping pool at KanXuk Blue Maya Resort, in addition to the on-site spa, cigar bar, and premium dining customized for guests. The resort offers the option of either an all-inclusive or EP plan. The all-inclusive plan includes gourmet dining, wine and spirits, roundtrip transfers, and more.
