Emirates will begin daily service between Miami and Colombian capital city Bogotá on June 3.

Emirates currently operates a daily Dubai-Miami flight. The new schedule will add a leg, giving the airline a one-stop connecting option from its Dubai hub to Bogotá.

The airline said it has long wanted to serve Bogotá, but the city's high altitude makes it infeasible to fly Dubai-Bogotá nonstop. Miami was chosen as the stopover point due to the city's strong ties to Colombia.

Emirates will fly the route with a Boeing 777-300ER that has first class, business class and economy cabins.

Emirates, which has a codeshare partnership with United, will compete with Avianca, Latam and American on the Miami-Bogotá leg, Cirium flight schedule data shows.

Bogotá will be Emirates' fourth South American destination, joining Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.
