JetBlue will stop flying between Boston and New York LaGuardia.
The carrier's decision to pull out of the major Northeastern route is part of its strategy to rejigger its network with a sharper leisure focus, the airline said in a statement.
"The airport fees charged to JetBlue at LGA have risen sharply — now about $50 per traveler — which make it impossible for us to offer the low fares customers expect while maintaining profitability on this route," JetBlue said.
Currently, JetBlue flies from Boston to LaGuardia six times per day from Sunday through Friday and twice on Saturday.
The route will be discontinued on April 29, according to a schedule analysis by Ishrion Aviation. JetBlue did not provide a firm date. American and Delta also fly between Boston and LaGuardia.
JetBlue will continue to connect Boston with JFK, offering the route eight-times daily in the late spring and summer, Cirium flight schedule data shows. The airline is also introducing daily service from Boston to Islip Airport on Long Island in May.
JetBlue will be flying just 13 peak daily departures per day from LaGuardia in May, serving Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Palm Beach, Fla. In May 2023, while JetBlue was partnering in New York with American Airlines, it flew 20 destinations from LaGuardia.
