Orlando Airport remained closed Thursday following the passage of Tropical Storm Nicole.

"Damage-assessment crews are beginning the recovery process by assessing inside facilities and then moving outside to address issues as weather conditions improve," the airport tweeted at approximately 12. p.m. Eastern time.

Nicole landed overnight just south of Vero Beach, Fla. as Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Nicole then passed south of Orlando before turning up the west coast of Florida as a tropical storm.

Orlando Sanford Airport also remains closed to commercial flights. The reopening is expected Friday morning, the airport said. Palm Beach Airport resumed operations at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Airports in Tampa and Tallahassee are open.

Flyers should check with airlines for the status of their flight.
