Southwest Airlines will begin flying to Alaska in May.
The carrier will launch daily routes to Anchorage from Las Vegas and Denver and will announce specific start dates as tickets go on sale later this week. The services will be summer seasonal, according to Anchorage Airport.
Southwest declined to say if the routes would be seasonal or year-round, but it confirmed the flights from Anchorage would be redeyes.
Southwest will compete against United and Alaska on Anchorage-Denver, Cirium flight schedule data shows. The carrier will compete against Alaska on Anchorage-Las Vegas.
Anchorage is the fifth new destination Southwest has announced this year, joining St. Maarten; St. Thomas; Knoxville, Tenn.; and Santa Rosa, Calif.
