The Los Angeles Times has launched a series of small-group
tours, called Los Angeles Times Expeditions. They will be hosted by journalists
who work for the paper.
The packages include a movie back-lot tour with film critic
Kenneth Turan, an exploration of World War II-era art theft in Vienna with
staff writer Deborah Vankin and experiencing New Orleans Jazz Fest with music
journalist Randy Lewis.
The tour packages were developed in collaboration with
Washington-based educational travel provider Academic Travel Abroad. Agents
earn 10% commission on sales.
There are more than a dozen initial itineraries with
destinations including Southern California, Yosemite, Oaxaca, Cuba, Tuscany,
Milan, Austria, New Orleans, Johannesburg and Dubai. The first expedition
departs in February.
"This travel program is another way for us to spread
our journalism, connect with readers and share a deeper understanding of the
world around us," Times editor in chief and publisher Davan Maharaj said
in a statement.
The Los Angeles Times Expeditions are currently open for
booking and will have their first departures in 2018.
