National Geographic Media named Expedia Group executive Nathan Lump as its new editor in chief, effective June 6.

Nathan Lump
Lump was formerly editor in chief of Travel + Leisure and operated his own consultancy focused on developing editorial, digital and social media strategies for a range of brands. He is currently Expedia Group's vice president and global head of editorial and entertainment.
In his new role, Lump will manage the content strategy of the National Geographic editorial team as part of National Geographic Media, which has several print and digital products and over a half billion followers on social media.
Lump will focus on continuing to modernize and expand the brand's approach to storytelling across mediums and platforms by elevating Nat Geo's digital work to engage new and existing audiences across platforms.
During his Travel + Leisure tenure, TravelandLeisure.com grew more than 100% year-over-year for three consecutive years, video production increased to more than 1,000 pieces of content annually and was the only travel title in the U.S. to maintain monthly frequency.
Lump has also served as digital director of Condé Nast Traveler and editor of the travel and holiday editions of T magazine and digital travel editor of the New York Times.
