The W Retreat & Spa on Vieques, Puerto Rico, which opened two years ago following a $100 million conversion of the former Martineau Bay resort, got a big publicity boost with the recent airing of a steamy episode of ABC’s “The Bachelor.”
Both the resort and the island of Vieques got a lot of air time on the reality TV series, as bachelor Ben Flajnik and his bevy of bachelorettes explored secluded beaches, indulged in treatments at W’s Away Spa, dined on Caribbean cuisine at chef Alain Ducasse’s miX beachfront restaurant and lounged in the W’s guestrooms.
The exposure tripled Internet traffic, boosted bookings and increased occupancies in the aftermath of the show’s airing, according to resort officials. Vieques’ bloggers, however, felt that the island’s attractions should have gotten more exposure.
The W Retreat now offers two packages that tie in with the show. The Bachelor, starting at $590 per night, double, with a three-night minimum, features daily breakfast, one dinner for two at miX, a day rental of a Jeep that includes a gourmet picnic basket and a couples’ massage at sunset with champagne thrown in.
Package No. 2, Amp the Romance, includes elements pulled from the show’s island itinerary. Starting at $1,260 per night, double, with a four-night minimum, the package covers suite accommodations; daily breakfast; a private date at Paradise Edge, a cliffside haven near the beach; a cabana rental for a day with wine and tapas; a Jeep rental with picnic basket; and a couples’ massage.
Both packages can be booked for travel through April 30. Visit www.wvieques.com.
