Josephine Connolly has been named the minister of tourism, environment, heritage, maritime, gaming and disaster management for the Turks and Caicos.

Connolly was appointed by the newly elected premier Charles Washington Misick following the destination's general election on Feb. 19.

"I am committed to working to ensure the tourism industry not only recovers but also surpasses its current record as one of the leading luxury destinations in the Caribbean," Connolly said.

She was elected to the House of Assembly in 2012 where she served three terms before being named to her current post.
