Delta Air Lines has announced a new nonstop route from Seattle to Kauai beginning in December.
"Reliable air access extending throughout the Hawaiian Islands is instrumental to our tourism industry's continued viability to support businesses and residents statewide," George Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, said in a release. "Delta's new Seattle-Lihue service strengthens Hawaii's ties to one of our major gateway cities, and will make it easier for travelers anywhere in the mainland U.S. to make daily flight connections to Kauai."
The daily flight from Seattle-Tacoma Airport to Lihue Airport on a Boeing 757 is scheduled to start operating on Dec. 21, according to a statement from Delta.
"Kauai's economy will benefit significantly from this new service," Szigeti said, adding that the flights are expected to generate $77.9 million in direct visitor spending for the island, and $9.1 million in tax revenue for the state.
The new route to Lihue Airport was announced along with six other nonstop destinations from Seattle coming this year for Delta. The others are Austin, Texas; Eugene and Redmond, Ore.; Milwaukee; Nashville; and Raleigh, N.C.
