A popular Honolulu spot for food events and other gatherings is moving.

Makers and Tasters food park, opened in 2015 at the former Fisherman's Wharf in Honolulu, closed Jan. 27. The space, operated by events company Street Grindz, hosted the regular event, Eat the Street, which features dozens of different food trucks and other vendors.

Street Grindz, citing issues with rainouts and an inability to get the necessary building permits to construct coverings, has decided to close the food park and move Eat the Street, according to a statement issued by the company.

Makers and Tasters, in addition to Eat the Street, also hosted a rotation of daily food truck vendors, concerts, fundraisers and other special events.

"We've been working to grow Honolulu's mobile food industry since 2010 and our goal has always been to provide as much opportunity and exposure for small businesses and entrepreneurs. This change is really a move back to our roots of organizing community events throughout the island," Poni Askew, CEO and founder of Street Grindz, said in a statement. "We want to create events where the public can come and try all the wonderful tastes and creations our local entrepreneurs are coming up with. We encourage everyone to find us and support the many small local businesses we will continue to feature."

The last Eat the Street event at the current location was held Jan. 27. The event will then move to its new location, Kakaako Park starting Feb. 24. The new weekly event will feature food vendors, artisans, and other retailers.

Street Grindz also puts on Kapolei A Go Go, a smaller and more frequent version of Eat the Street, every Tuesday at the Villages of Kapolei.
