The Moana Surfrider, the first hotel built on Waikiki when it was the Moana Hotel, is preparing celebrations for its 117th birthday.

Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort and Spa, opened on Oahu's southern shore on March 11, 1901. To mark the anniversary of the occasion, the property will host a daytime and evening event on March 10.

First is the Timeless Afternoon Tea Party at the Veranda from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests will have the chance to experience a traditional tea service with classic tea sandwiches and other savory items. Additionally, pastry chef Nanako Perez-Nava will prepare an array of French-influenced treats including opera cake, chocolate eclair, macarons and madeleines. The tea party, which includes a live pianist, costs $75 for adults and $40 for ages 3 to 12.

At night the birthday festivities continue with a concert by Raiatea Helm and Friends from 7 to 9 p.m. The singer from Molokai was the first Hawaiian solo female vocalist to ever earn a Grammy award nomination in 2006 for her sophomore album, "Sweet and Lovely." The concert will take place in Moana Surfrider's Banyan Courtyard where seating is available, or guests can also take in the show from the Veranda at the Beachhouse Restaurant while dining on a four-course prix-fixe meal. The Veranda dinner package costs $155 per person, and tickets for seating in Banyan Courtyard start at $35.
