The final two gates in New York LaGuardia Airport's new Terminal B have opened.

In addition, the final section of a new aircraft taxiway is open.

"Today's announcement marks the completion of a remarkable journey that culminated in an award-winning, 21st century facility at Terminal B, and we couldn't be prouder," said Port Authority of New York and New Jersey chairman Kevin O'Toole.

The $5.1 billion project got underway in 2016, and the first gates in the new terminal opened in 2020. The bulk of the facility has been open since January, when construction ended. The two final gates in the 35-gate terminal were able to open following the demolition of the old Central Terminal Building.

American Airlines and Northeast Alliance partner JetBlue occupy Terminal B.

The Terminal B project is half of the mostly complete $9.2 billion overhaul of LaGuardia. The largest portion of the new Terminal C, which is occupied by Delta, opened in early June, including the arrivals and departures hall, nine gates and a selection of restaurants and shops. The remaining 21 gates are slated for completion by late 2024.

Delta is financing the Terminal C project. LaGuardia Gateway Partners is the developer and manager of the new Terminal B.
