Marriott International's luxury lifestyle brand Edition is plotting major global expansion in 2021, unveiling plans to open seven new hotels in the coming year.
Among the first set to join the portfolio is the Reykjavik Edition in Iceland, scheduled to debut in the summer. The 253-room property will feature a rooftop nightlife venue and ballroom as well as a restaurant and bar and cafe.
Come fall, the brand expects to unveil the 78-room Tokyo Edition Ginza, which will mark the brand's second Tokyo outpost, joining the recently opened Tokyo Edition Toranomon.
Other fall openings for the brand include the 95-room Rome Edition, 200-room Madrid Edition and the 210-room Dubai Edition.
Lastly, both the Riviera Maya Edition at Kanai in Mexico and the Tampa Edition in Florida are on track to open by winter 2021. The Riviera Maya hotel, which will be the Edition brand's first Mexico flag, will be part of the Kanai beachfront community near Playa del Carmen and comprise 180 rooms.
The Tampa hotel, located within the city's new Water Street Tampa community, will feature 172 rooms.
Born out of a 2007 collaboration between Marriott International and hospitality veteran Ian Schrager, the Edition brand currently has 11 properties worldwide.
That count includes the brand's Times Square Edition hotel in New York, which has closed for the foreseeable future due to the pandemic. In August, however, executive vice president and CFO Leeny Oberg said during an earnings call that the property's "lenders have stepped in" and that it could reopen.
