Proposals to levy a tax on services -- including travel services -- have been introduced in Utah and Nebraska. The bills are similar to one recently proposed in Connecticut.

The tax in Utah would be 3.1%, and the tax in Nebraska 6%, according to ASTA.

ASTA said Utah's tax reform bill is the most urgent, as legislators are trying to pass the bill before the legislature adjourns next week on March 14. It imposes sales tax on "amounts paid or charged for services," according to the bill.

ASTA has added a feature to its website enabling those who live in Utah to submit an email in opposition of the proposed tax. It has also created a phone script.
